Welcome to HNC: A College where you will become your best self!
Thank you for your interest in joining our staff team. HNC is a successful 16-19 college offering young people a unique educational experience. The College provides life-changing opportunities which empowers students to achieve their vision. We are a values-based organisation and we take seriously our commitment to supportively challenge staff and students to become their best self. Our Careers site shares more about what it is like to be a member of the HNC team. In this section you will find an overview of the College and what it offers.
Curriculum
HNC’s core full-time Level 3 curriculum is divided into three distinct pathways - A Level, Applied and Blended. Some students resit GCSE English language and / or maths alongside their Level 3 courses. Progress Tutors deliver our Aspire curriculum to all students and they also oversee the academic and pastoral development of their tutees. In addition, under the ‘enrich’ strand of our curriculum intent, all students are expected to participate in our diverse range of enrichment opportunities. HNC’s curriculum is broad, balanced and coherent, our aim is to enable our students to successfully progress to university, apprenticeships, or work.
Performance
HNC has a national reputation for high quality academic results and strong value-added performance. These results enable our students to take advantage of a wide range of progression opportunities. Our results are achieved in the context of responsibly inclusive entry requirements which enable a broad cross-section of the community to benefit from the HNC experience. Ultimately, our students leave educated, enriched and enlightened, ready for their future – whatever that may hold.
Facilities
The College has excellent facilities for staff. There is IT access and a projector in every teaching room, there are two large, supervised study areas, extensive drop-in computer access, supervised Independent Learning Hubs, a theatre, lecture space, dance studio, Costa Café and Starbucks. Staff have free access to our sporting facilities which include a sports hall, sports barn and gym. Staff are co-located in team base rooms which encourages collaborative working and fosters a positive team ethos. The Staff Wellbeing room is open throughout the day. We are also fortunate in having a large, green-field campus, with extensive views across the Pennine hills.

HNC is located about two miles northwest of Huddersfield town centre. There are regular public transport links between the College and the town centre. The College is less than a 5-minute drive from Junction 23 of the M62. Staff who drive to work have free access to our on-site car park.
“The diverse curriculum at HNC really helps students to achieve their ambitions. Within Science we offer both A Level and Applied qualifications, and this genuinely has opened up a world of opportunity for students seeking careers in the STEM sectors. The diversity of our curriculum is something that makes HNC an exciting place to work.”Emma Reeves, Head of Faculty – Maths and Science
